inspired by the My Parents Were Awesome tumblr to put up one, of the many awesome photos of my dad, before he was my dad. taken on assignment when he was a journalist in New Mexico (he’s on the left). here’s his caption:

Spring, 1977, On the Jornada with journalism giant Bill Diven. Following another day covering the hunt for buried treasure at Victorio Peak. Today (Oct 23, 2010), at a site not far from here, the runway for the world’s first spaceport was christened. Not that I’m against progress, but I’d be uncomfortable taking off for a sub-orbital spin from a place known for the last five hundred years as the Jornada del Muerto…the Journey of Death.
